As we settle into 2026, I wanted to take a moment to talk about a plant that has become a staple ingredient in almost every body product we make because of it’s amazing medicinal properties for our skin. Calendula officinalis is not only a yellow show-stopper in the summer, but it is chalk-full of Vitamins A, C, E and K, Iodine, Manganese, Saponins, Tannins, Flavanoids, Carotenoids, Antioxidants, Triterpenoids (anti-inflammatory), and Fatty Acids. It is praised for it’s ability to heal wounds, soothe skin conditions of all kinds, and even provide emotional balance. It has little-to-no fragrance and gives any oil you infuse it in a slightly yellow tint, which makes it the perfect addition to products for even the most super sensitive skin.
Over the past few years, we have started growing our own calendula flowers, so that we can work directly with this plant and her amazing benefits, and infuse her into Jojoba oil to add to our body products. It gives us a deeper understanding of this beautiful and beneficial plant, and helps us create a more sustainable and ethical product for all of you, while knowing exactly where our ingredients are coming from.
Because Calendula is rich in Flavanoids and Triterpenoids, it supports a healthy microbial balance and eases inflammation. It can help ease sun burn and minor burns, cuts and scrapes, itchy and irritated skin, diaper rash, and acne and skin redness.
Calendula also supports our Lymphatic and Circulatory systems by easing lymphatic congestion and promoting restoration and balance by allowing the body to easily pass and get rid of toxins. This plant also helps protect and ease the symptoms of tired and irritated eyes from overuse by reducing swelling, redness, and discomfort. It’s also an excellent tool for Womens Health by promoting healthy blood flow while easing menstrual cramps and pelvic tension. It can soothe dryness and discomfort, as well as help the skin heal after childbirth.
And lastly, if used in a tea blend, Calendula can help ease digestive discomfort, expel excess gas, and help soothe and calm an upset stomach.

We recently met up with Deb from Don’t Trash Dover & Dover Doers, as well as our friends at The Nook Breakfast & Lunch, The Brunch Club Dover, Ryan Levasseur, The Dover Area Women’s Club and others for a business trash pick up session around downtown Dover, NH. This is our 2nd time getting out into the community for this event, and it’s one of our favorite ways to volunteer some time, meet others, and help keep our community clean! We can’t wait for the next one in spring 2026!
Our Last Market of the Year…
…will be on Saturday, December 6th at the Center For Wildlife’s Holiday Bazaar and Maker’s Market Fundraising event. The market features close to 20 local vendors and small business owners set up throughout the Center from 11a – 3p. Each vendor donates 20% of our sales back to the Center, so it’s a really important day for not only the Center and their 2026 budget, but for all the amazing and wonderful Animal Ambassadors that calls the Center home, as well as the thousands of animals they will treat throughout the year.
Along with my contribution in sales, I will also be introducing a new 3D owl soap at the market. 100% of the proceeds of the owl soaps will be added to our Center For Wildlife donation, this season as well as throughout the year. For those of you that are new to Sassy Skin & Soul Care, here’s a quick tidbit about us…and by us, I mean me. My name is Christy, the Herbal Alchemist and solo person behind it all. That means herbalist, product maker, website designer & maintenance, marketer, photographer, content creator, forager, bookkeeper, shipper, and whatever else comes up, I do it all. I have been making soaps for over 25 years, and have spent the past 5 years growing Sassy from just offering soaps, to now having hair products. salves, tinctures, lip balms, cuticle creams, bug repellents. mineral salt soaks, mugwort cleansing bundles, chakra soaps, and facial serums, with more coming soon. I work with alot of local plants, and forage for many of them here in New Hampshire and southern Maine. I also grow some of my ingredients, and the ones I do purchase are always done ethically and sustainably. I never use synthetic processes, ingredients, or fragrance oils, and all of our packaging can either be thrown in the compost bin, or cleaned out, sanitized and reused.
I do have a certification in Sacred Gaian Herbalism, and love working with people to create custom blends for soaps, as well as tinctures and bitters. As we bring this newsletter to a close, we want to leave you with a few things to think about, keep in mind, and look out for. We are working on a few new products that should be available by the beginning of the new year, if not sooner. We’ll have a couple new tea blends. including one for singers and smoker’s of all types, as well as a hand-soaking blend to help with tired, stressed hands. We will also have a new aromatherapy rollerball blend that I think you’re going to love, as well as our first herbal body powder that will be both talc and cornstarch-free! After that, hand sanitizer. Stay tuned for all that!
We hope you’ll keep us in mind for the holidays! We love putting together gift baskets, and can personalize them depending on your recipients. We can also make smaller versions of many of our products, if you are looking for teacher gifts, yankee swap gifts, hostess, bachelorette party & shower favors, bridesmaid gifts, etc. It’s as easy as knowing your budget and recipient, just hit me up and let me know who and what you are looking for, and I will take it from there!

Summer is in full swing now, and we have been quietly busy spending time outside, growing and gardening, nurturing, foraging, harvesting, learning from, and listening to the plants, the herbs. the fungi and the trees. We have also been building a new vegetable garden in a space that has low-quality soil and a little-to-nothing budget, and have been finding solace in knowing that I finally have a space to grow food, herbs and medicinal plants for my family and for you all, as I use them in my products throughout the year.
In late spring, we found a plethora of both the invasive Rosa multiflora, as well as Japanese Honeysuckle, and have had both of them infusing in their own jars in Jojoba oil for a few weeks now. Both will be used in soaps we’ll be making for our website, as well as the fall markets. It was just before the Summer Solstice that we started seeing the bright yellow burst of color from the St. John’s Wort petals, and the beautiful white clusters of not only Yarrow, but Elder Flowers as well. We even found another spot to ethically forage some Sweet Fern and Mugwort (although both are quite plentiful all around my area, but not always in safe, non-sprayed places)
After finding the Mugwort and Sweet Fern, we were able to forage enough, with some Hemlock and White Pine from southern Maine, and Lavender and Rose petals from last years harvest, to make our Mugwort Cleansing Smoke Bundles, which are wrapped and drying as I type. These will be available online and at the markets we will be attending starting in September, until we sell out. Keep reading to find out where we’ll be this fall!

Lilacs have always been my favorite flower for their amazing scent alone. Their sweet floral smell is a stress reliever, but you’ll probably be surprised to see just how many medicinal properties these very beautiful, very short-lived flowers also have.
Lilac flowers contain Vitamins A and C which help boost your immune system, and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties as well. They can also give respiratory relief, and can help sooth and calm anxiety, making it a wonderful stress-relieving agent.
This year the soaps will be made with coconut milk and a small layer of vegetable glycerin, calendula and rosehip oils, and fresh New Hampshire Lilac petals (which also happens to be the official NH state flower). They will be available in a 4oz soap for $12 or a 5oz body bar for $15.
I harvest the lilacs when they are just opening and in full bloom, and make the soaps immediately, preserving as much of the medicinal properties as possible. I am at the mercy of Gaia and the weather, but I usually have these ready for shipping and pick up in the 3rd week of May. The pre-order page will be available until the day before I harvest. Once it is removed, ordering for the yearly batch will be closed.
I will only be making enough soaps for my pre-orders this year, and will not have extras after the season. To place your order, click the link below to pick your size and get your deposit in. Lucky for you, we have just added a new herbal salve to our product line, and it is full of vitamin C and antioxidants, and has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. Introducing our Eastern VitaConi Salve! The stars of this show are the sister conifers Eastern Hemlock and Eastern White Pine that we ethically foraged in southern Maine. Pair them with Myrrh, Calendula, Vitamin E, Jojoba, Apricot and Hemp Seed oils with local beeswax, and you have a wonderful, woodsy-smelling salve that also relieves stress, as well as giving you that boost of Vitamin C we all long for after a long winter.

Here we are, almost a month into 2025 already! I wanted to take a moment and thank all my wonderful customers and patrons that have, and continue to support me on this herbal body care journey. It’s really important to offer healthy and clean alternatives to the items we use to feel good, stay healthy and get through every day life. The importance of working with plants, flowers, trees and fungi to keep our bodies in balance, our minds sharp, and our energies in check, has never been more prominent. Thank you for letting me share my ever-learning knowledge of what these beautiful beings can do for us when we work in reciprocity with them, with you. Ground damiana and cinnamon are mixed into vegetable glycerin with rose, vanilla and calendula, and a rose petal to finish it off. As much as we love summer, we have now hit mid-August, and that means fall is coming. And with it, cooler weather, and cold and flu season being just around the corner. Even before then, kids across the country will be returning to school, and germ season will be in full swing. Are you and your herbal medicine cabinet ready?
Lucky for you, we have been working with our lovely friend, Echinacea purpurea. More commonly known as the Purple Coneflower, this beautiful plant isn’t just total eye-candy in the garden. It is also a secret weapon in the medicine cabinet, and a blessing to our immune systems. We made a double tincture with glycerin and echinacea’s flowers, leaves and roots. This is safe for all ages, and will give an immunity-boosting burst of goodness that can be added to just a small amount of water.
Echinacea contains vitamin C, beta-carotene, tannins, polysaccharides, and caffeic acid. It is antifungal and antibacterial, and helps keep fungal and bacterial infections at bay. Echinacea increases macrophage (white blood cells) and T-cell activity, which are our first mechanisms of attack against foreign antigens entering our body. It is also full of polysaccharides, which also helps protect our cells from the invasion of bacteria and viruses.
It is recommended to start using the tincture at the early signs of sickness. We list all recommended doses on the bottom of the product page. Quantities are limited, as we like to make things in small batches to keep product fresh. This tincture will be good for up to a year in your medicine cabinet, and can be used as a preventative precaution as well.

I like to take advantage of a not-so-ideal situation, and get to know our invasive plants and the medicinal properties they are known for. While stewarding the land and working to remove these plants from our local ecosystem, we are not only making space for local native plants to take root, and thrive, but we are getting to make wild foods and medicines from the roots and plants of the invasives for our community, whether local or afar.
We just released our first Invasive Plant Product that we are excited to share with you. The Lonicera japonica – Japanese Honeysuckle Soap, is made with the pretty flowering vine leaves, as well as the flowers, infused in jojoba oil. This plant is known to clear heat and eliminate toxins, and has many medicinal properties and pharmacological actions, including antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antitumor, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, central nervous system stimulant, antihyperlipidemic, gastrointestinal, antidiarrheic, diuretic, hypo and hyperglycemic, and antispasmodic. For your skin, it is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and an antioxidant. It contains Vitamins A, B1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12, Vitamins C, D, E & K, Calcium, Copper, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium and Zinc among others.
Japanese honeysuckle flowers / Lonicera japonica
We combined the infused honeysuckle oil with vegetable glycerin and calendula flowers and oil, and are pouring these into various embossed 4oz soap molds. Quantities for the year will be limited to the amount of oil we have in stock, so don’t sleep on these, or you may be waiting until next years harvest!
Christy has been harvesting Purple Loosestrife, and infusing that in oils, as well as making a tincture for our next body care products, which should be available soon. It’s that time of the year again, and the lilacs are in full bloom!! We are getting ready to go harvest and make our NH Lilac Soaps, and have been posting on social media about them, and wanted to make one last call to those of you that don’t follow us on FB or IG. We are only making these soaps to order this year, and will not have any left in the Storefront, so please reach out if you are interested, we are only taking orders until Tues June 21st, or until the lilacs start dying.
These NH state flowers are only blooming for a short season, and I am making them this weekend. We sell the 4oz rectangle soap bars for $12, and the 5oz body bars (shown above) for $15, plus shipping if applicable. This year they will be made with a layer of each coconut milk and vegetable glycerin, calendula and hemp seed oils, tea tree and lilac essential oils, and fresh NH lilac flowers, and will be packaged in our compostable wrapping. I can customize these if needed, just let me know in your message.

For those of you that don’t like to keep the good products at home while traveling, we have the perfect sized soaps so you don’t have to. Each travel sized bar is 1.2oz, and you can easily fit 2-4 of the bars in one 5″ x 3″ x 2″ soap case (like the one shown). Imagine carrying your shampoo, conditioner, facial cleanser and body soap all in one case (or maybe 2, if you don’t like them touching, lol)
The first set includes our Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner Bars, and the second set includes our I Love Facials face bar, and a Body Bar of your choice. You can opt to buy each pair of soaps together, with a reusable travel case, or by themselves for easy refilling.
As far as the Body Bars go, there are a few options in the drop down box, as well as a Write-In Blend option. The write-in is where you can ask for other suggestions, or pick another soap that we offer, or just request your favorite oils and additives.

Once I stopped using store bought body products, I realized I needed a good facial moisturizer, and fast. My skin was very sensitive, and even as an adult, I was breaking out more often than I should. That’s when this blend was born, and I have been using it for years now, and my face has never looked so good, which is why I want to make it for you as well.
Our Wild Heart Facial Moisturizer is made from just a few ingredients, and offers amazing herbal benefits for you and your skin.
Vitamin E oil protects against UV damage, is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, reduces red spots, scars and acne, provides hydration and helps reduce wrinkles. Jojoba oil improves the skin elasticity and gets rid of flaky, dry skin. It also helps clear acne, reduces skin inflammation and soothes sunburns. Calendula helps prevent skin alteration and early aging through the hydration it provides the skin. It is also anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and helps protect against UV damage. This oil will leave your face glowing. If you find it to be too oily for daily use, a powder foundation could be used. Or, use this as your nightly moisturizer, and apply it after you wash your face before bed.
It’s that time of the year again, and colds and flu season is upon us! We have created an Elderberry Decoction that can help fight off those nasty cold and flu viruses, and help prevent them from settling in in the first place. Elderberries contain tons of Vitamin C, so they can help ease flu symptoms, protect your immune system, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and has neuroprotective benefits. Throw in the added benefits from Ginger, Cinnamon, Clove, Orange and Lemon, and the Pre0biotic benefits of Burdock Root, and you have a blend that not only tastes delicious, but will help you not only get better, but stay that way.
Decoctions do need to be cooked, unlike a tea that just needs to steep, as both the elderberries and burdock root require it. This decoction can be thrown in the water in the bag as-is, or you can dump the contents from the bag directly into the water, and strain when it’s done. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil, reduce the heat, add the contents and cover, and simmer on low for 30-45 minutes (make sure the heat remains low, to not cook off the medicinal benefits of the herbs). Strain the pulp and compost, and serve the tea either hot or cold, with honey to taste. Mix does make 3 cups, and will stay in the fridge for days after simmering. After switching back to soap bars and leaving body wash (and all the plastic waste) in the dust, I often wondered why I wasn’t doing the same with my shampoo & conditioners, and decided to make the change. It took a little time, and alot of research, to come up with a formula we were happy with, but we prevailed. Introducing our Strengthening Shampoo & Conditioner Bars. When we formulated these bars, we wanted ingredients that would strengthen hair, promote new, healthy hair growth, and prolong our natural hair color, while keeping our hair hydrated, full and shiny.
Super easy to use, just wet the bar and your hands, working up a lather. You can either apply the shampoo & conditioner with your hands to your wet hair, or use the bars directly on your hair. Keep on for a moment, and rinse out.
The Shampoo bars actually act as a 2-in-1, and can be used for shaving as well!
Now, let’s talk about the plastic waste you will not be throwing in landfills! Each bar is super concentrated, and will save you 2-4 bottles per bar! We used a slightly different recipe than the others, and infused Cinnamon with Coconut and Olive oils, instead of the Jojoba and Sweet Almond. Those of you that know me, know I am heavily tattooed. I also have super sensitive skin, which has made life interesting, lol. I was always looking for a lotion that would keep my tattoo colors vibrant, and help the black line stay heavy and not fade, and decided to make a salve that could incorporate all the above. You will never find synthetic or fragrance oils, or any chemicals or preservatives in any of our products. We currently have 4 different lip balm blends, and that will change on a seasonal basis. Custom orders are also available for lip balms, but there is a 5 order minimum.
Our Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Brown Sugar Scrub is a wonderful companion for our lip balms. This scrub is vegan and edible, and made with cinnamon-infused coconut and olive oils, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and both brown and cane sugars. It is absolutely delicious, and makes your lips feel soft, hydrated and kissable.
Back in October, I began my journey to become a Sacred Gaian Herbalist, and enrolled and started a three year Apprenticeship with Jessica at Blackbird’s Daughter Botanicals in Barrington, NH. I realized, my entire life. that I had looked at herbs, roots and plants mostly as culinary, or aesthetic. and never medicinal, and wanted to change that.
When I started making soaps professionally, and bringing these amazing-for-you products to the public, I wanted to do more than just offer healthy, smells-good options for soap and body products. I also wanted to walk through the woods, or any where in nature, and be able to identify the life around me, and know the benefits they may offer, or not. Forge them, in the most respectful way possible, and be able to offer them to you, and the amazing healing power of plants. I wanted to live a cleaner, healthier lifestyle. Not only for myself, but for this planet.
I wanted my products to help, to heal, to comfort, and to nourish the users mind, body and soul. I want to know everything about plants, and the magical ways they help and heal us, so I can bring those amazing healing properties to you.
Through this journey, I quickly became a member of the United Plant Savers. One of the first things they send, is a current list of the At-Risk Plants. As I looked it over, I was sad to see both Sandalwood and White Sage on the list.
And, because of this, and the importance of saving these magical herbs, plants and trees, Sassy Soaps will no longer be offering either of these as ingredient options for any soap or body care products. If I had been aware of this list before, I never would have started using or offering them, and I highly, HIGHLY encourage you to stop buying and using products with either of these in them. There are many wonderful alternative options for both sandalwood and white sage, and we need to each take action to help preserve these precious beings from being wiped out forever.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the importance of keeping these species on our planet, and not helping contribute to the stealing of these plants and trees from Indigenous lands, so they can be available to the public, is more important than any of our feelings or inconvenience, and I would be happy to discuss other safe and natural alternatives to both of these amazing beings of our planet with any of you, at any time.

What can we say, we’re crazy about skulls!! Introducing these new additions to the Sassy Soaps Holiday Soap family. The first photo shows our whopping 8oz Bead Skull Soaps, made with your choice of Black Onyx, Indian Agate or Amazonite crystal beads, a pair that can later be used to make jewelry out of, or added to a charm bracelet, or spell bag. The next set of skulls is the Trio of Standing Skulls. Each soap is 4 oz, and can be purchased separately, or as a set. Descriptions of each soap can be found both on our website, and storefront. A few months ago, Sassy Soaps became a member of the Qumran Records Family, and wanted to be there for Metal Mayhem 2022, a tribute night full of two stages and amazing bands, all in honor of our late friend Eric Wagner, who passed from Covid complications last August.
We are so excited to be making our first Chicagoland appearance this Saturday, August 27th at Brauer House in Lombard, IL. Sassy Soaps will be visiting with our family out there at Qumran Records, and will be selling our sassy stuff and band merch alongside Rena at the merch tables. What can we say, we LOVE a great beard! Made with a Jojoba, Calendula and Walnut Oil base, these beard oils will moisturize dry skin and hair, soften rough cuticles, have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, help fight hair loss, promotes healthy hair growth and helps keep dandruff and dry skin at bay. Meant to use once or twice daily, you only need a few drops at a time. Start rubbing the oil on your skin first, then work the oils out thru your beard hair, evenly distributing the oil. **Can also be used by anyone on their head to promote healthy hair growth. Suggest using it once a week as needed. Apply directly to scalp, working the oil into your scalp and evenly distributing oil across scalp and through your hair. Leave on for 10-15 min, then wash your hair.**

I know, I know, we just moved in and got settled in our boutique in Hampton Falls, but are sadly being forced to move out, and will no longer be there after April 30th.

Hello everyone, and happy New Years Eve! It’s been quiet on the Sassy Soaps front, so I wanted to check in. Unfortunately, I tested positive for Covid on Christmas Eve this year. Altho I have been living with mild-to-no symptoms, I have decided to take the time off, rest and reflect, and start getting ready for the busy upcoming year. I have not been making soaps at this time, and it has been strange, especially without symptoms. January 4th, I will be back in full swing! Between getting back on track, and getting our retail space up and running, it should be a fun and prosperous new year! I really hope to have some returning customers this year, as well as see many of your smiling faces in our store in Hampton Falls, NH. Until then, stay safe and happy out there! To try this new awesome Necromancer Soap, shaped like a Ouija Board! This new mold has been added to our Sassy Mold family, and is available for customization with your favorite essential oils nd natural additives. This soap weighs in at 3.75 ounces. It is 4 inches long, 3 inches at it’s widest point, and about an inch tall.
This sample was made with Coconut Milk, Honey, Argan, Almond, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, and Vanilla Essential oils, and was dry-brushed with a gold glitter dust, that is both non-toxic and skin-safe. Also shown without the glitter dust.
This might be my new favorite mold right now, and I am happy to present The Pentagram Soap to the collection! This baby weighs in at 6oz, and is 4 inches in diameter, and just about 1 1/2 inches tall. I made the sample shown in 3 layers; the top and bottom have activated charcoal and poppy seeds, honey, peppermint, eucalyptus, lime, and calendula essential oils. The third, red, middle layer has coconut milk, honey, rosehip, almond, and rose essential oils, and rose petals. It is also dry-brushed with a non-toxic, skin safe red glitter.

Because ‘Soap of the Month’ Club is so 2000, the Sassy Soap Society brings you one of our artisanal soaps, every month, plus special discounts and contests just for SSS Members, to be used at any time, on any other Sassy Soap product. A secret room with secrets just for you.
Each month, you will get to pick from one of the two featured 4-5 oz. soaps, or our ‘I Love Facials’ bar, and get it shipped to you, for $15/month. Your choices will be included in our blog, as well as on your invoice. Send your preference in with payment, and stop having to worry about running out of your new favorite soaps!
You will also be offered to purchase additional soaps of the month at any time during that month, at a deep discount. As a Sassy Soap Society Member, you will also receive 10% off any and all of your Sassy Soaps orders outside of the Society, at any time, while you are a member. Memberships can be reserved in 3, 6, 9 and 12 month increments, and your price is locked in for that time. Memberships over 3 months are eligible for a one-month break during your cycle.
You can choose either the 1st or the 15th for your billing cycle. Payments are due within 3 days of receiving your invoice, and soap orders are made immediately following, with shipping out to you within a week.
